Tisza-government: Danube water level has risen by 5 cents near Paks, preventing shutdown.
Around 2:00 AM on Tuesday, the Paks Nuclear Power Plant was close to shutting down completely, but the rising water level of the Danube prevented this. The plant’s last, 240 megawatt turbine is operating stably, which could also facilitate the restart of other blocks. On Monday, the government implemented emergency measures to address the energy crisis, withdrew from the purchase of the Zugló office complex, announced important personnel changes, and outlined new economic policies.
Around 3:00 AM, the Paks Nuclear Power Plant was only a few millimeters away from complete shutdown, but at that time, the decline in the Danube’s water level stopped, and by morning, a rise of 1.5 centimeters was recorded, which, according to Prime Minister Magyar Péter’s evening announcement, has now reached 5 centimeters. This has allowed the plant’s last, still operational, 240 megawatt turbine to operate stably, which could significantly facilitate the restart of other blocks. Meanwhile, the government had decided on extraordinary measures to deal with the energy crisis on Monday, halting the purchase of the Zugló office complex, announcing several important personal decisions, and outlining new economic policies.
