The Ministry of Rural Development caused almost a billion dollars in damage with a statement, which was quickly retracted.

Several weeks of watering restrictions could already cause significant dehydration in a large portion of Budapest’s young people. This scenario appeared to be a real danger, according to a government announcement, which could have caused damage worth several million for the capital, according to the city’s calculations. Ultimately, the ministry retracted the text, which was described as an ordinance in the wording of landscape architect Sándor Bardóczi, but the case also highlighted the need to rethink the thirty-year-old watering restrictions in an era of increasingly extreme droughts.
