The Hungarian debt management company publicly revealed long-hidden details of the large loan taken from China.

The National Debt Management Center has released key financial data on the 1 billion euro loan taken out in 2024 from three Chinese banks, which was repaid in April 2024. The interest rate was 3.916 percent, and the principal and interest payments were due in April 2027. The loan was intended to support the government’s spending on high-tech, infrastructure, and energy projects.

The most important financial data related to the 1 billion euro Chinese loan taken in 2024, which had previously been kept secret by the state, have been publicly released on the website of the State Debt Management Center. The loan, taken from three Chinese banks, was repaid in April 2024, with an interest rate of currently 3.916 percent per year. The principal and interest payments are due in full in April 2027, at maturity. The purpose of the loan was to finance the state budget’s spending on cutting-edge technology, infrastructure, and energy.
