The government could revise municipal contributions – Budapest could have access to 5.7 million cubic meters of air this year
The parliament is facing a previously neglected proposal regarding the rescheduling of funding for the “Competitive Districts Program.” If approved, Budapest and Győr can expect moderate costs, with Budapest not incurring any costs, while Győr would pay less for the program. The Ministry of Finance has indicated that negotiations will soon begin between local governments and the government to address the financial difficulties faced by municipalities.
There is already a bill that has received little attention, but it is before the parliament and concerns the rescheduling of the sources for the Competitive Regions Program. If the bill is adopted, it could bring significant changes for the settlements: Budapest and Győr have told Portfolio that if the bill is adopted, the capital is expected to receive none at all, while Győr would need to pay less than originally planned this year for the financing of the program. From the answer sent to us by the Ministry of Finance, it also became clear that soon negotiations will begin between the municipalities and the government to resolve the financial problems of the settlements.
