The first part of the program focused on the complete shutdown of the Paks power plant, which was caused by the heat, drought, and water shortage. The question arises as to when the power supply can be resumed and what the future holds for Paks II.
In the second half of the Checklist program on Friday (from 16:00), we will be interviewing András Gelencsér, a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the head of the Atmospheric Chemistry Research Group, about the long-term social consequences of extreme weather in Hungary, and how much we need to change our thinking and our daily lives as a result. In the first half of the program, we had previously discussed the complete shutdown of the Paks power plant, which has never happened before: the heat, drought, and the low water level in the Danube have all led to this. The question is when Hungarian electricity supply and the Hungarian economy can restart – and of course, many people are wondering what the point of Paks II is, which is also being affected by the low water level in the Danube. We discussed this with András Major, an energy analyst at Portfolio.
