The case involving the "Gondos" watch may continue to develop.
Prime Minister Magyar Peter announced that the government will file a complaint regarding the “Gondosóra” program, which the National Tax and Customs Authority is investigating for suspected budgetary fraud. The program was previously funded by EU funds, but the government removed it from the recovery plan, as it was likely to lose the funds due to budgetary irregularities. The total budget for the program was 110 billion forints.
According to a statement by Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar, the government may also file its own report regarding the “Gondosóra” program after the Integrity Authority’s actions last week, in which case the NAV has already launched an investigation into suspected budget fraud. The program, with a budget of approximately 110 billion forints, was originally planned to be financed from EU funds, but as revealed in Prime Minister Magyar’s press conference on Thursday, the Hungarian government removed the program from the EU recovery plan submitted to Brussels and replaced it with another project to avoid losing the funds. According to the Prime Minister, the European Commission and oversight bodies had identified irregularities in the program, which would have definitely resulted in the country losing the allocated EU funds.
