Janisz Varufakisz: Is there any chance left for the American catharsis?
On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, I offer a different perspective, not based on the usual economic and geopolitical analyses. I choose a more emotional and personal approach, based on the Athenian perspective, to examine the United States’ role as a global hegemon. The United States’ development and decisions continue to have a profound impact on all of our lives, and it is worth understanding them from a new perspective.

In connection with the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, I felt a strange urge to deviate from my usual approach, which involves examining arguments for and against the United States based on economic and geopolitical analysis. Instead, I want to express my personal, even Athenian, perspective on the world’s leading power, whose development and actions have shaped our lives.
