The new Hungarian government is bringing favorable changes to the use of wind energy, which is beneficial from both energy and economic perspectives. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy offers 4,000 megawatts of grid connection opportunities to developers by 2030, which is the most cost-effective and cleanest solution. New wind farms can help reduce air pollution, reduce electricity imports and energy prices, and complement the operation of solar power plants.
Beyond energy and climate considerations, a positive change compared to the previous situation, in terms of Hungary’s competitiveness and economic security, is that the new government is opening up wider opportunities for the use of wind energy domestically. The Ministry of Economic Development and Energy aims to provide a total of 4,000 megawatts of grid connection opportunities to developers who plan to install new turbines by the end of 2030 – this is precisely the volume that expert studies consider to be the most economically and environmentally sound solution. In addition to significantly reducing domestic air pollution, the new wind power plants could also reduce electricity imports and market electricity prices, and their production would complement solar power plants effectively, and their installation would also help to control investment costs in the energy system.
