Housing: the key question is no longer construction, but rather operation.

In a Check List broadcast on Thursday, the discussion focused on trends in the housing market and fuel prices. Economist-urbanist Varga Zoltán emphasized that maintaining and modernizing the existing housing stock is much more important than building new homes. In another segment, energy analyst Kristóf Mohos discussed the factors behind the rising prices of gasoline and diesel, and analyzed which factor has the greatest impact on prices.

Housing: the key question is no longer construction, but rather operation.

Year after year, the number of new homes built in Hungary receives a lot of attention, while most people already live in homes they have built themselves. This was discussed in the Checklist program on Thursday (from 13:31). The maintenance and modernization of existing housing affects the lives of many more families than new investments, according to economist-urbanist Varga Zoltán in the program. The first part of the program discussed the recent rise in gasoline and diesel prices, while several unfavorable market trends are also reinforcing each other. Fuel prices are being affected from three directions. But which of these factors is having the strongest effect, and can this current price increase be sustained? We asked Portfolio’s energy analyst, Kristóf Mohos, about this.
