Four out of ten Hungarians were unable to afford a one-week vacation.
By 2025, 27.5% of the EU’s population aged 16 or older will be unable to afford a one-week vacation away from home. This figure is approximately 40% in Hungary, placing the country among those with the worst situation. However, statistics over the past few years show a positive trend: the number of people who cannot afford to vacation due to financial reasons has decreased compared to 2010 and 2015.
In 2025, 27.5 percent of the EU’s population aged 16 or older could not afford a one-week holiday away from home. The Hungarian figure is much worse, at almost 40 percent, putting the country at the bottom of the ranking, on the third step of the imaginary podium. However, the longer period shows a significant improvement: compared to 2010 and 2015, the proportion of people who could not afford a one-week holiday due to financial reasons has also decreased significantly.
