Dystopian vision for Hungarian healthcare: Hospital debt could reach 100 billion by the end of the year

By the end of June, the hospitals’ outstanding debt had reached 49.5 billion forints, and it is expected to reach up to 100 billion forints by the end of the year. The Medical Technology Association and other professional organizations have urged urgent measures, such as raising funding contributions, but Health Minister Zsolt Hegedűs has not yet provided information on possible solutions, citing the debt problem.

By the end of June, the hospitals’ outstanding debt reached 4.95 billion forints, which, according to the Orvostechnikai Szövetség’s forecast, could reach up to 10 billion forints by the end of the year. Although professional organizations and healthcare economists are urging immediate consolidation and an increase in financing funds, Health Minister Zsolt Hegedűs has not yet commented on possible solutions, citing a shortage of funds, as reported by RTL Híradó.
