Bathhouses and market halls could also become new tourist attractions in Budapest.

Budapest’s famous thermal baths, Roman era landmarks, and other cultural sites are often neglected. To boost tourism, the city needs to take three main steps. First, it needs to improve the quality of existing services. Second, it needs to reopen and develop underutilized or closed sites. Finally, tourism needs to be expanded beyond the city center.

World-renowned but often poorly managed bathhouses, Roman era relics, Buda’s cellars, and closed museums and industrial monuments await to finally become part of the city’s bloodstream. If the capital wants to move beyond a tourism model based on lower costs and limited experiences, it needs to take three steps: improve the quality of existing services, reopen and develop underutilized or long-closed attractions, and expand tourism beyond the city center.
