Amazing conditions on Hungarian beaches and at festivals: millions of fines are being issued to caterers.
The National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority inspected 585 establishments during the summer food chain inspection, finding numerous deficiencies. They initiated a total of 94 administrative proceedings and imposed fines exceeding 18 million forints. The operation of 15 establishments was restricted due to serious hygiene problems. In 5% of the establishments, hygiene problems were identified, while in 12% of the establishments, consumer information problems were found, while at many festival sites, basic infrastructure was lacking.

The inspectors initiated 94 administrative proceedings, imposed fines exceeding 18 million forints, and restricted the operation of 15 establishments due to serious hygiene issues. In one-fifth of the establishments inspected, hygiene deficiencies were found, and in 12 percent, there were violations of consumer information regulations. In addition, at festivals and events, the basic infrastructure was not available at many locations. A recurring problem was the lack of hygienic handwashing facilities, improper food storage, and the omission of allergen labeling.
